Customised Knowledge: Fruit 4.0
This Customised Knowledge project is aimed at lowering the barriers to the application of precision orcharding. In this project, the consortium partners are putting knowledge and products from completed and ongoing research into precision orcharding into practice as quickly as possible. Knowledge and experience are being shared with fruit growers, fruit-growing consultants, suppliers and students.
The knowledge themes: Sensing | Precision measures | Data management & ICT | Efficiency of precision applications | Orchard design | Robotisation
Methodology
The knowledge is put into practice via demos, meetings, webinars and by developing teaching materials for fruit growing education. Three regional study groups have also been set up, consisting of an average of 15 people, including fruit growers, advisors and students. Each study group has one fruit growing company as a demo company. The choice of subject is determined in consultation with the group. At least three meetings will be organised for each group each year.
Examples of questions
What do sensors ‘see’ and what should you look out for when purchasing sensors? | How do you use the sensor platform? | How do you analyse and use the data? | How do you create a task card? | The set-up and experiences surrounding the demos of precision applications and the efficiency of these applications. Each study group is supervised by a WUR employee and a permanent, experienced crop advisor.
The intended result of this project
At the end of this project, the target group will be aware of the possibilities that new technology has to offer and the participants in the study groups will be able to apply new techniques and data management tools to their own businesses.
