Start Cherry & Currant harvest

Cherry Harvest

The cherry harvest began on June 10 in Randwijk, starting with the earliest varieties Nimba, Sweet Aryana, and Prim. In addition, older varieties such as Burlat and Merchant were also harvested. The results of the early varieties will be included in the next newsletter. This year, it is clearly evident that covering during bloom (rover cover) results in a slightly earlier harvest. The Voen cover is approximately one week later. In the coming week, all varieties before Kordia will be harvested, including Vanda, Areko, and several trial varieties.

After that, the harvest of Kordia & Regina will take place, which make up a large part of the acreage in Randwijk. Various trials related to pruning/tree forms and fruit set are also being conducted in these varieties.

Currant Harvest

In addition to cherries, the early currant harvest has also begun. The first harvest was the tunnel-grown Junifer, followed by outdoor Junifer, and currently the last Haronia berries are being picked. Mid next month, we hope to begin harvesting Rovada.
